Happy New Year! I’ve been playing around with staging my sculpture recently (above). It is made out of bale wire scraps. Many have said it is very ambiguous. I like the varying connotations it brings. My favorite was one was that it seemed animal-like—which goes well with my football player theme in that the players can seem animalistic at times!

This image (above) is from my Coochie Series. I’m sure you’ve noticed the Louise Bourgeois reference. I found the girl’s tights on eBay. A customer came to my register carrying the wooden house-when I told her I loved it-she gave it to me-saying she was weary of carrying it as she found it by the trash.

This (Below)is one from my current iteration in the Football series. It comes from a suite of 4 large format drawings with watercolor on paper and the iteration includes one real-life-scale bale wire sculpture of a football player.

The title is Bruised 2 (Johnny Unitas). Jonny Unitas was a football player in Super Bowl III - 1969. He was the quarterback and for this game he was on the sidelines due to an injury. The background of this piece references bruises from my friends Leo and Teddy and from myself. The bruises have a triple-entendre: 1)Unitas' reason for not playing in the Super Bowl; 2) how physically vulnerable players are in the sport; and 3) our bruised life here on earth during the pandemic.
